Getting Published
Effective November 1st 2005, Penguin Group (Canada) will no longer be accepting unsolicited manuscripts, and will not enter into correspondence about unpublished work. We can, however, offer the following advice on how to go about getting into print.
When you feel your work is ready to be published, the best way to approach a publisher is through a literary agent. Agents can objectively advise you on your work and will know the most suitable publisher to take it to, not to mention fight for the best deal on your behalf. A comprehensive listing of Canadian literary agents can be found in The Canadian Writer's Market.
Looking for further tips on getting into print? The best place to start is your local library, where you'll find a wealth of information on writers' groups and plenty of books on writing and the publishing process. Three guides that are particularly useful for Canadian writers, and that are available in most libraries, are The Book Trade in Canada, The Canadian Publishers Directory, and The Canadian Writer's Market.
We also recommend the following websites, both of which offer invaluable information for writers: The Writers Union of Canada and The Canadian Authors Association.
We wish you the best of luck and hope you are successful in placing your work.
