Barbara Nickel's young adult novel The Secret Wish of Nannerl Mozart was shortlisted for the Mr. Christie's Book Award, the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction for Young People, and the Red Cedar Young Readers' Choice Award. It has also been optioned for film by Ellen Freyer Productions in Los Angeles. As well as being a children's writer, Nickel is an award-winning and widely anthologized poet for adults and has had fiction and non-fiction pieces published in many literary journals and magazines. She lives in Yarrow, British Columbia, with her husband and two children.
